WiFi Satellite Dish
A Segment from TechTV’s The Screen Savers. The Cable used is LMR400, refer to other videos i have posted in relation to this one. Google is a good soruce for making wifi satillite dishes or cantennas

How would i use my grid antenna with my amped repeater to make the signal wireless
How would i use my grid antenna with my amped repeater to make the signal wirless
@mel2000 That’s very specific info to each card…. Depending on the card you might have to open it and cut into circuits etc. The design/dimensions of antennas is also very specific to the frequency being used.
This is video entertainment not really informative.
@mel2000 you have to remember this video is old most likely as of 2003. USB cards nowdays do not have the cabability to connect an external antenna, unless you modify one. People need to get creative if they want this to work. There are instructions online on google
For the ordinary non-geek user they really should have gone into more detail on how to connect the antenna to your wifi card since most cards/adapters don’t have the means to accept external connectors.
@nnmk001 you have a point, the range is limited on this, it wouldnt go miles, you might get 1/4 of a mile. This could pick up signals from 4 blocks away (mc donalds is 4 blocks away from where i am at and i can pick it up with this). Its not a 14 dBi High Gain Outdoor Directional Antenna that could go about 3-5 miles. This is just a improve signal
having Just one high gain antennas is Usless for long range connectiion without a second high gain antenna on the other side you’re trying to connecting to so basically because you have a powerfull high gain antenna does not mean you will be able to connect to wifis from miles away unless you have another high gain antennas on the other side so with just one high gain antenna it might pickup lots of wifis but connecting to most of them is impossible signal will be to weak!!!
How would you connect the LMR400 cable to the computer?
@salem113 netstumbler is just running in the background on my screen xDDD
meh, Just use a flat panel antenna to locate the general location of a singal and a helical or yagi antenna to lock in on the highest gain for that signal. Dish antenna’s spread the signal out to much, unless you have motorize your feeder to allow you to adjust the focal point and invest a large amount into 5w+ injectors and noise filters (anything above 1000mA in the 2.4ghz band can potentially get the attention of the FCC though).
hie sir how can l have that software to see the signal .like a dish finder…please e-mail me on ..owen.mangisi@gmail.com… lam try to link up two offices please help me
All well and good for a single laptop, but can we use this an actual wifi extender for our router? Say I want my router to actually broadcast the signal to long distance in order to make a mesh network… I want everyone to see it, not just a laptop connected to an antennae. Can this be done using the same method?
The guy on the right is the same guy on Revision3 here on Youtube. He still is a great tech guy. Worth checking out!
@salem113 … arghh ofc … Now i just feel stupid ^^
@sp4d3n its called netstumbler.
Name of that software with green lines
dont get caught? you wont if you research the highest ammount of ampication you can use in your country. In canada your limited to 1 amp (1000 miliamp) amplification. I assume it would create noise if over amplified anyway, but its not like you cant just say its satelite tv,,
LOL just don’t get caught…
@elgoose2003 well the dish doesnt connect to the laptop, or vice versa, the wifi card is connected to a cantenna mounted on a satellite, which is basically a home made antenna. If you google cantenna, you will see many different ways of making one. If you want to use a USB adaptor, you could cut a hole in a tin can like coffee can or soup can, and stick the adaptor in that
how does this dish connects to a laptop or to a laptop usb adaptor?
man this brings back memories, i miss the screen savers, since the merger when TSS became attack of the show, it just wasn’t the same, it just turned into a total anarchy free-for-all
@groundwire123 No the fcc didnt shut them down. The Merger of TechTV and G4 eventually did. A few years after the merger of TechTV and G4 back in 2004 (sadly), the screensavers became attack of the show and there is now different hosts of the show. You can catch Patrick norton on Revision3 Tekzilla revision3 ( dot ) com/tekzilla and kevin rose on another show, i dont remember which one
hey I noticed the website does not work anymore. Did the fcc finally shut them down? These guys are great! Anyone know the new website or something?
@jacktron100 Do you mean the wires? If that is the case, you need those to connect the computer to the dish. What this is for is increasing wireless signal between a laptop and a wireless access point that you are connecting to. You dont even need a satellite dish to do the same thing, all you need to do is make an cantenna and it works well. I have actually made of of these (similar to the one in the video) and it works great. I can pick up my local mcdonalds and its 7 blocks away.
@jacktron100 and how do you figure?
